WHAT'S A LINK

Let's first start with what a link is. Dictionary.com refers to a link as: A segment of text or a graphical item that serves as a cross-reference between parts of a hypertext document or between files or hypertext documents. Also called hotlink, hyperlink. This is a pretty darn acurate explanation! Basically it is a underlined word that will take you to another page (a page is part of a website). Once you click (clicking is tapping your mouse once on the left side button) the link it will either change your page or bring up a new one. If you click a link accidently then you can use your back button (the button on the top of your screen the says back ,sometimes has an arrow) to bring the page you are on back. After you use a link it will change colors, this helps you keep track of the links you have used.

A BROWSER IS......

A software application used to locate and display web pages. Some common browsers currently are Netscape Navigator™,Microsoft Internet Explorer ™ and Firefox™. If you are looking at this page right now you are using some kind of browser! So look at you..you know how to use a browser already! On the top of your browser is a bunch of icons (little pictures) and words. file,edit,view, favorites,and help are the standard words that you will see at the top of each browser. These words are what is refered to as tools.Each of these words(or tools) have a drop down menu under them. A drop down menu is just a list of things that you can do with your browser. The tools you use most are repeated on the browser and have a icon next to them. This means that you can use the bigger buttons (some that you push to make stuff happen) to do things or you can use the words and the drop down menus to do what you want on the internet. What are Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)?

Companies (websites) say that clear gifs (Web Beacons or Web Bugs) is a software technology , that  determines what content on site is most effective. What they actually are .... clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. This information is analyzed by marketers to find out what products and services are used by consumers. Companies/websites can tie the information gathered by clear gifs to website users personally identifiable information and will unless it is stated clearly within the terms of service. Always read the terms of service before taking a survey or downloading something free!.

Websites/companies may also use clear gifs in our HTML-based emails so that they know which emails have been opened. This ability is why some mail programs now offer you the ability to turn off the html graphics on emails.. that you have not expressly given permission. The websites/companies use this information to monitor the effectiveness of  email campaigns and to validate  results to people they are emailing the advertisements for.
